UK Head Injury Key Facts

Head Injury : Facts

In the UK approximately:

  • Three-quarters of people with head injuries are male
  • One-fifth of people with head injuries are 65 years of age or over
  • Half of people with head injuries are children
  • Two-thirds of head injuries in adults involve alcohol.

Fortunately, many head injury accidents are preventable and organisations such as the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents provide general safety advice, such as:

  1. Keep stairways tidy to avoids tripping
  2. Use appropriate safety equipment when doing any kind of DIY
  3. No standing on unstable chairs, use a stepladder
  4. Clean up spillages to prevent slipping over

And for children in particular:

  • Check that windows cannot be opened by your child, especially in their bedroom
  • Move furniture away from windows to prevent your child climbing and falling out
  • Fit safety gates at the top and bottom of the stairs.

Some head injury accidents will always happen, no matter how careful people are, but when they do our specialist solicitors at HeadinjuryUK who are trained to understand the problems faced by a head injury victim and those around them can help.  So should you or someone you know have suffered a head injury through someone else’s fault, then please contact Andy Shaw to discuss how we can help.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
