Claiming Compensation for Cerebral Palsy

If mistakes were made by medical professionals during and shortly after the birth of your child which led to cerebral palsy, and those mistakes were avoidable, you may be able to claim compensation for birth injury medical negligence.

Head Injury UK is a team of highly specialist medical negligence lawyers, some of whom are experts dedicated to representing those who have suffered birth injuries and, in particular, cerebral palsy.

Our experience is in-depth and we have successfully pursued and won a large number of cerebral palsy cases, including where liability has been denied, or where circumstances have been particularly complicated.

Even if you are unsure of whether your child’s cerebral palsy was caused by medical negligence, please take a few moments to give us a call.

Our Aim: To Ensure your Child is Properly Cared for

The legal experts at Head Injury UK work closely with medical professionals to ascertain the cause of a child’s birth injury and if it is found to be the result of a mistake made during birth, or a lack of adequate care shortly afterwards, we will build a strong case and pursue the highest possible compensation award. Our aim is to make sure your child can be properly cared for now, and in the future, and that your own financial needs as a carer are met.

During labour Matthew suffered distress causing his heart rate to drop to dangerously low levels. Despite this his midwife did not intervene and Matthew was born in a critical condition. Over the first few months of his life, Matthew's parents noticed his development was delayed. When Matthew was finally diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, his parents instructed Medical Injury UK to investigate. After obtaining expert medical opinions, the hospital admitted negligence. Compensation will be awarded to Matthew to ensure he has financial security and access to private care for the rest of his life. Due to his young age the amount of compensation cannot yet be determined, however it is estimated to be around £8,000,000.

Delayed Surgery caused Cerebral Palsy

Jimmy developed an acute bowel condition soon after being born, but unfortunately his local hospital failed to transfer him urgently to the specialist hospital unit for immediate surgery.  As a result he went on to suffer severe brain injury leaving him with spastic quadriplegia, visual impairment, learning difficulties and epilepsy.  Liability has been admitted and we are continuing to work to finalise his claim.

Negligent Delivery led to Cerebral Palsy

Matthew's birth was managed negligently with a failure, amongst other things, to monitor his heart beat.  This meant that his distress was not picked up and he suffered hypoxic brain damage as a result, leaving him with cerebral palsy.  Had he been delivered only 10 minutes earlier, it is likely he would have been born with no brain injury.  Liability has been admitted and we have obtained substantial interim payments, whilst we work to finalise his claim.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
