Former WWE wrestler, Chris Nowinski, says young people aren't taught enough about head injury. A WWE rising star, he had to retire in 2007 with post-concussion syndrome after being kicked in the head during a match. He says he ‘never really recovered’.
Now a co-founder of a special brain injury institute, he has made a documentary called Head Games: The Global Concussion Crisis, to raise awareness of head injury in sport. Based on his own experience, he wants to spread the message that concussion is not just an issue for people in professional sport, but for anyone who plays at an amateur level.
Chris who recently met MPs and Arsenal FC to talk about why parents, doctors and coaches should be properly educated about head injuries, says that young people are particularly at risk. This is why he thinks that more education is needed in the UK, especially since in the US laws ensure that young people and parents are aware of the concussion risks, before they even start playing the sport. He says,
‘I don't think it's fair to put a kid out there in harm's way without telling them. I didn't realise I had a brain injury because no-one ever told me. It's only right to tell them what's going on.’
Professional athletes like Nowinski are now helping spread the message about the risks of head injury in some sports to amateur players, especially to children. Our head injury solicitors support any efforts to raise awareness and hopefully prevent head injuries. If unfortunately you or a loved has suffered a head injury, please contact Andy Shaw or call us on 0800 073 0988 to see how we can help you.
We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.
The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.
If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.
Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
