Brain Injury Effects

When you suffer a traumatic head injury following an accident or clinical negligence, you may be affected in a number of different ways, such as:

Physical Effects

A brain injury may cause you difficulty in moving or keeping balance and a loss of co-ordination. You may also experience headaches and increased tiredness.

Hormonal Effects

Some head injuries can damage your pituitary gland, a pea-sized gland in the centre of the head, resulting in the low production of hormones (powerful chemicals that have a wide range of effects on your body) .

Sensory Effects

Senses may be affected by a head injury, for example, you may lose your sense of taste or smell which can affect your appetite.  You may develop visual blind spots or be unable to control your body temperature properly, so that you feel too hot or too cold.

Cognitive Effects

Following a head injury, your ability to think, process information and solve problems may be affected.  You may suffer memory problems, particularly with your short-term memory, and have difficulty with your speech and communication skills.

Emotional or Behavioural Effects

Following a severe head injury, you may experience changes to your feelings and behaviour. For example, you may feel irritated, angry or selfish.  You may be less sensitive to other people’s feelings or lose your inhibitions and behave in a way that other people consider inappropriate. You may also laugh or cry more than before your injury.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
