A recent study looking at the risk of concussion to children in sport has found that the greatest risk of head injury is in contact games like rugby.
Researchers looked at the risk of concussion for some of the most popular sports, including rugby, hockey, football, basketball, softball, athletics, taekwondo and volleyball. On average children only suffered concussion for every 67 hours of practice and competition which may not seem high however, these injuries still affect many children. Concerningly the concussion rate in rugby is about 18 times higher than average and five times higher for hockey. The researcher Paul Ronksley explained this is because they are high contact sports which naturally present a greater risk of children sustaining head trauma.
It is unsurprising that high contact sports like rugby have a much higher rate of concussion however, the significant increase in risk underlines the need for those responsible for running high risk sports to take child head injuries seriously and to do all that they can to protect children from head injury. The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.
If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.
