Children, Brain Injuries and Depression

Recent American research has shown that 15% of children with a brain injury or concussion were found to develop clinical depression.  This is nearly 5 times as many children, when compared to those who had not suffered a brain injury or concussion.

Brain injured children: Double Depression Risk

Surprisingly although adults with a head injury are known to have an increased depression risk, little research has been done involving children.  So the study, using 2007 National Survey of Children's Health data, identified approximately 2,000 children with brain injuries and 3,000 diagnosed with depression.  Then taking into account factors commonly linked to depression in children such as the make-up of the family, delayed development and bad physical health; depression remained twice as likely in children with brain injury or concussion.

Head Injury UK: Brain Injury Claim Experts

At Head Injury UK our brain injury solicitors from their own experience have long recognised the prevalence of depression in all brain injury clients.  Hopefully this research will raise general awareness that when anyone suffers a brain injury or concussion, then those treating them will keep a look out for signs of depression so that they can be treated early.  If you or a loved one has suffered a brain injury caused by someone else then contact Steven Santy or call us on 0800 073 0988, to see how we can help you.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
