Germany World Champions: Head Injury debate continues

Our earlier article, World Cup Head Injuries, highlighted serious concerns about how in practise football does not seem to treat concussion seriously.  Unfortunately, this was highlighted yet again on football’s biggest stage, in last night’s World Cup final.

Cristoph Kramer

This time it was the German midfielder Christoph Kramer who suffered a head injury, the latest in a series of head injuries at this World Cup.  Kramer continued to play on for 14 minutes after taking a heavy blow to his face, having collided with the Argentinian Ezequiel Garay.  Most worryingly, it was not until he slumped to the ground with suspected concussion that Kramer was taken from the pitch.  He appeared to be disorientated as he was helped off and has since said, ‘I can't remember very much.’

There were further worrying head injuries for the Argentina player Javier Mascherano in his team's semi-final against Holland.  After receiving a hard knock to his head Mascherano appeared completely disorientated, falling to the ground after clashing heads with a Dutch player.

Head Injury UK: Head Injury Claim Experts

All of these incidents call into question FIFA's concussion protocol and whether the sideline medical checks are protecting players.  Our head injury solicitors support calls for FIFA to allow temporary substitutions, such as happens in rugby, to allow players suspected of having concussion to leave the pitch and have a proper medical check over.  At Head Injury UK our specialist team of lawyers are dedicated to helping head injury victims, so if you or a loved one has suffered a head injury that was someone else’s fault, please contact Andy Shaw or call us on 0800 073 0988.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
