Golf and Head Injuries

While Europe enjoys its “Miracle of Medinah” win to retain the Ryder Cup, many people will be inspired to pick up a club.  Whilst on the face of it golf appears to be a safe sport, it can still be surprisingly dangerous.  Many people are treated in hospital every year for injuries received from playing golf, most commonly with head injuries and facial injuries after being hit by a golf ball or club.

Golf Injury Research

The Institute for Preventative Sports Medicine in the US has conducted various crash dummy tests, to demonstrate just how dangerous a fast moving ball can be.  Using a golf ball machine to propel the ball engineers hit the dummy in the head, chest and arm, then measured the impact to determine the extent of injuries.  Dr Janda of the Institute found that most injuries could be serious and many fatal, unless treated properly and quickly.  The most vulnerable part of the head to injury was the temporal area, where blood vessels supplying the brain are right underneath the skull.

Golfers Often Ignore Head injury

Apparently, most golfers ignore their head injuries and continue to play, but if after a blow to the head you are having headaches, blurred vision, double vision, nausea, vomiting, ringing in the ears, you must see a doctor.  Head injuries can actually worsen over time and can even lead to death in some cases, if not treated soon enough.  Perhaps the most dangerous thing to do after a golf course injury is to head to the clubhouse for a couple of drinks; alcohol with a head injury can be deadly.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
