Have you packed your breathalyser?

As the annual holiday season fast approaches, many of us will be off in search for some summer sun.  Whilst taking to the road whether holidaying in Britain or simply travelling to the port or airport, recent official figures are a concern as they show the number of people in Britain killed or seriously injured in road accidents rose in 2011.

Increased Serious Road Casualties

This is the first annual increase since 1994, though to put this into context that is 1 person killed or seriously for approximately every 12 million vehicle miles.  Whilst it is difficult to say what has caused the increase with any certainty, we do know that many of those people would have suffered head injuries.

Drink Driving

Interestingly, bearing in mind the well known link of drink driving to road accidents, France has implemented a new law requiring all drivers to carry a “Norme Francaise” certified alcohol breathalyser in their motor vehicle.  The idea is that drivers test themselves before driving.  As of 1 July 2012 this rule applies to all drivers regardless of nationality and all motor vehicles including rental cars. There is a grace period until 1 November 2012, after which it will become mandatory and is punishable by an on the spot fine.

Head Injury UK

If you are planning to drive to France we strongly recommend you buy your breathalyser before you leave.  You never know when a gendarme may stop you.  We wait to see whether the law will reduce the number of people killed or seriously injured in accidents on French roads.

Our team of specialist, head injury lawyers are experienced in handling accidents abroad, not just those suffered in this country.  So should you or someone close to you have suffered a head injury in an accident abroad or at home, contact Andy Shaw to see how we can help you.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
