Meningitis Awareness Week: 16 - 22 September 2013

Today marks the start of Meningitis Awareness Week.  A timely campaign, as autumn always sees an increase in the number of people suffering meningitis and septicaemia.

Get The Message

Run by The Meningitis Research Foundation, this year’s Meningitis Awareness Week is targeting teenagers and young adults to Get The Message, as 14 to 24 year olds are among those most at risk.

It is hoped that the campaign will raise awareness so that we all can recognise the signs of meningitis.  This is vital because did you know meningitis and septicaemia are so dangerous as to kill in a few hours.

What is meningitis?  What is septicaemia?

Meningitis is swelling to the brain and spinal cord.  Symptoms include vomiting, severe headache, stiff neck and aversion of bright light.

Septicaemia, blood poisoning caused by the same germ, may be caught at the same time.  Symptoms for both diseases include confusion, a rash anywhere on the body and intense sleepiness.  Septicaemia may also cause muscle pain, cold hands and feet, and breathlessness.

Head Injury UK: Get The Message

At Head Injury UK, we understand the seriousness of these diseases and the importance of prompt diagnosis and treatment.  Our medical negligence solicitors support the aim of Meningitis Awareness Week for us all to Get The Message.  If you or a loved one caught meningitis of septicaemia which you think was not recognised or treated quickly enough, contact Clare Langford to see how we can help you.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
