Race Circuit Accident causes Brain Injury

Falling Accident

The Castle Combe race circuit in Wiltshire has, since it opened in the summer of 1950, seen many famous drivers compete including Stirling Moss, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, and David Coulthard.

In 2008 it was the unfortunate scene of a serious accident, not involving a racing driver, but of a man who had worked at the circuit for 20 years.  David Johnson, 63, was collecting metal advertising hoardings at the race track when a gust of wind blew him off the lorry on which he was standing.

High Court

He suffered a severe brain injury when he was blown from the lorry, which left David in need of 24-hour care.  The High Court found against his employer who was ordered to pay him a lump sum of £2 million.  In addition he will receive £250,000 for a year followed by annual index-linked payments of £205,000.  He is currently still in a rehabilitation unit, but will now be able to afford to move into an adapted bungalow.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
