Record Personal Injury Award

Agnes Collier, a teenager who was left paralysed following a car crash, has been awarded £23 million over her lifetime.  Made up of an immediate £7.25 million lump sum and annual payments of £270,000, the award exceeds the previous record £12.2 million payout for personal injury.

Tragic Accident

Her accident occurred back in March 2009, when a motorist pulling out of a side road caused her family’s car to be hit by an oncoming lorry.  Her mother was killed and her brother Rufus also suffered a severe head injury.  Agnes herself suffered serious spinal injuries which have left her legs completely paralysed and she also has limited arm function.

The offending driver who admitted causing death by driving without due care and attention, was given a six month suspended jail sentence, banned from driving for 18 months and ordered to do 300 hours unpaid community work.

Is it Compensation?

Whilst Ms Collier has now been awarded record damages by the High Court, which will help fund care costs and lost earnings, it can never truly compensate what she lost on the day of the accident.

Head Injury UK: Serious Injury Claim Specialists

Agnes’ case underlines the value of our legal system enabling those who are injured or who lose a relative, due to an individual’s carelessness, to obtain recompense.  However access to such justice is currently endangered for a large number of accident victims by legal reforms.  Head Injury UK opposes any changes that will effectively prevent innocent victims from obtaining redress.  Should you have been injured or lost a loved one due to someone else’s carelessness, then contact Andy Shaw to see how we can help you.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
