Road Deaths Rise

The Department of Transport has released its latest road safety report.  It makes tragic reading with increased numbers of people being killed and injured on our roads.

  • 1,730 road deaths - up 1%
  • 24,360 people killed or seriously injured - up 4%
  • 192,910 total reported casualties - up 5%.

The report, which covers the 12 months up to September 2014, confirms the overall casualty rate for every mile travelled by all of our vehicles rose 3%.  So the higher casualty figures are not just due to us travelling more.  Our roads have actually become more dangerous.

Child Casualties Rise – first time in 20 years

  • 2,060 child deaths and serious injuries - up 3%
  • 16,640 total child casualties - up 6% - the first rise in 20 years
  • 3,500 cyclist deaths and serious injuries - up 8%.

Brake

The road safety charity Brake, expressing dismay at the report, called on political parties to make the following general election commitments to reduce casualties:

  • Reduce the urban speed limit to 20mph
  • Introduce graduated driver licensing
  • Introduce a drink drive limit of 20mg per 100ml of blood.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
