Serious Stroke caused by Whiplash Injury

Robert Bright, was a successful 56 year old businessman before his minor car crash in 2008.  Now he has lost his managerial career and is left needing long term care, as the accident caused a serious stroke 34 days later.  Suffering a brain injury and losing the full use of his left arm, the High Court awarded him £2.43 million including the cost of lifelong care and rehabilitation as well as loss of earnings.  He has now spoken out about the hidden danger of whiplash in the Evening Standard.

“I thought the whiplash would heal on its own.”

After his car was shunted whilst stationary on the M27 and exchanging details with the other driver, he continued on his way.  As reported he says, “The impact threw me forward, but I didn’t think I was seriously injured.”  Despite neck pain and headaches and carrying on a normal life, unknown to him, a blood clot formed as the whiplash injury had damaged the main artery supplying blood to his brain, finally causing his stroke.  “I woke one morning a few weeks later with my left side completely numb and my speech slurred.  I couldn’t believe it when I was told I’d had a stroke.”

Head Injury UK: Brain Injury Claim Specialists

Robert says, “It’s hard to hear people dismissing whiplash injuries because most are unaware of the serious health problems it can lead to.  I would urge anyone who has the symptoms to be aware of the risks and not be afraid to get checked out.”

At a time when it is popular to disregard whiplash claims as trivial or even a myth, Robert’s case proves these injuries are real and on occasion can be extremely serious.  As with any injury, if in any doubt, seek medical help.  At Head Injury UK we have many years experience in helping people with brain injury and also other serious injuries suffered in road traffic accidents.  If you or someone close to you has suffered such injuries, then contact Andy Shaw to see how we can help you.

What our clients say

We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don't know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish.

Higgs & Sons acted for us for 5 years until our daughters claim for personal injuries was finally settled. Ian remains a trustee of our daughters trust fund and we now look upon him as a friend.
