Watch the Head Injury UK video of a mother talking about how her brain injured daughter's Head Injury UK solicitor Ian Shovlin "was absolutely marvellous".

"I can not recommend Andy Shaw highly enough.  I was a passenger in a traumatising car crash after which I sustained whiplash and received physiotherapy.  I was originally with another legal firm who became very frustrated and annoyed with my high levels of anxiety concerning the physical injuries I had.  I contacted my previous solicitor often and he was blunt and unsympathetic to me.  This solicitor was adding to my stress and upset at my situation so I looked into other solicitors including Andy Shaw.  Andy drove a long way to my house to meet me in person.  He listened to my upset, anxiety and loss of my mobility, work life and social life.  He was a breath of fresh air.  Andy Shaw was kind, empathic, reassuring and gave me hope that I could receive some compensation which would help me to pay my medical costs, physiotherapy and psychotherapy.  There was no pressure to agree to a no win, no fee contract with Andy.  I had already decided that I wanted him to represent me and that I trusted him before he left my house but he left the contract with me to think it over.  Once I sent Andy my signed contract he began working for/with me.  He was always at the other end of the phone or would get back to me shortly.  Andy became a huge source of support, advice and information always delivered with respect, empathy, acceptance and positivity.

I developed seizures, became bed bound and required full time care. Andy never judged me and really cared about my situation.  Andy's secretary, Val, also showed great respect, empathy and care for me.  It was discovered that I had post traumatic stress disorder and non-epileptic attack disorder.  Andy discussed this with me at length as he did with every development in my case.  I was never treated like a burden although I would plague Andy with emails and calls due to my high levels of anxiety.  When I recovered Andy supported my return to work.  My work were threatening to take me to a formal absence review meeting for me to argue why I should be able to keep my job.  I felt extremely concerned.  My first port of call was to Andy who spoke to one of his colleagues and informed me of my strong legal position which was a huge reassurance.  The car insurance company covering the car I was injured in contacted Andy and offered a few different settlements.  Each time Andy informed me, gave me his professional opinion and let me decide what I wanted to do.  With Andy's expertise I managed to be compensated 85,000.  Andy is a very highly skilled solicitor and a caring, respectful, honest, trustworthy, supportive and empathic person.  If I ever need a solicitor again, I will always call Andy and ask for his advice. Thank you so much for everything you did for me.'

"On Friday, 7th August 2009, I was knocked off my bicycle by a passing car. I was taken to Cheltenham General Hospital where it was found that I had a fractured skull, 5 fractured ribs and associated serious cuts and bruises to my body. I remained in hospital for several weeks and was eventually transferred to Heartlands Hospital in Birmingham. Upon recommendation we instructed Andy on the 10th August 2011. From that date onwards my wife and I were totally supported by Andy Shaw who remained in almost daily contact via e-mail and telephone. Andy also came to visit me at home, spending several hours discussing the way forward, explaining how he would bring in professional expertise, personal care, medical and scientific evidence to assess the accident. During the whole process we were kept fully informed of the outcome, evidence and results and were given copies of all the relevant documents and advised of the next step forward. In early March 2011, we were offered a generous financial settlement, orchestrated by the negotiations of Andy, however a few days later, after returning the signed acceptance form, we were telephoned by Andy who informed us that he had negotiated a further 4,000.00 on our behalf bringing the claim to an end on the 19th March 2011. We know that we have been extremely fortunate to have had such a consummate PI lawyer in Andy acting on our behalf but we have also been blessed by having had his support, trust, friendship and loyalty throughout. We cannot ever thank him enough. We are therefore more than happy to give a reference to anyone unfortunate enough to be needing the assistance of a PI lawyer and would not hesitate in recommending Andy Shaw from Higgs & Sons as the one to choose. He is simply “the best”.

"Whilst serving in the prison service, I was severely injured on duty. My injuries were so significant and severe that they caused my career to be cut short. I was medically retired and basically abandoned by the Prison Service and my Union. They left me feeling helpless, alone and fragile. My solicitor was extremely sympathetic and down to earth. He worked with me to ensure a just outcome rather than dictating the way things should be. The Defendant denied liability and fought the case aggressively. In turn my solicitor never gave up and fought equally aggressively. The medical evidence was difficult and my financial losses difficult to quantify. Throughout the case my solicitor and his team kept me informed and regularly updated and supported as the case progressed. I am pleased to say I received 100% of my compensation and a substantial award, I am completely satisfied and could not have wished for a better outcome to my claim."

"On the 16th January 2004 I was out on a night out with my friends. After being picked up I was involved in a road traffic accident. As a result I sustained a severe head injury. The person driving the car left me to die and ran off. I was on a coma for 4 months.

My family ensured that a solicitor experienced in dealing with head injury cases was appointed to represent me. He was superb. He kept in regular contact with me to ensure I was looked after and any needs I had were addressed by the insurance company. He ensured that I was provided with suitable temporary accommodation whilst steps were taken to find me permanent accommodation. I was also provided with 24 hour care whilst I was recovering. Most of my treatment was funded privately and paid for by the insurance company.

At the end of my case, I received all of my compensation which absolutely no deductions. My solicitors cost were met by the insurance company."
Nicola, Redditch

"My daughter was involved in an accident in 2004. She sustained a severe head injury. When we attended the hospital we were told that the next 24 hours were crucial and she might die.

I was anxious to ensure that Nicola had the best possible treatment and help when she was discharged and was put in contact with a solicitor with expertise in dealing with head injuries claims. Our solicitor was superb. He visited hospital and was there for us all the way through. He had a thorough understanding of what to expect with head injuries and was able to provide support, information and assistance to us. He was marvellous. It was a very difficult time for all the family and our solicitor made things so much easier. We were never let down once. I don’t know what we would have done without him.

The hospital staff said that if our daughter did come out of a coma, it was likely that she would be non-responsive. Due to the compensation that we received we were able to get her the best possible help and rehabilitation. As a result she made an excellent recovery. She would not be where she is now without this help.

The compensation Nicola has received has helped her move from a tiny council flat into a massive bungalow which has been specifically adapted. It has enabled her to have a better life.

"I don’t remember what happened when I had my accident. I spent 2 weeks in a coma. I spent a further 8 months in a hospital and then a further 18 months in a rehabilitation centre. I shattered almost every bone in my body. The main problem was a severe brain injury.

I had 24 hour care initially. To begin with I couldn’t speak at all. I had help from physiotherapists, occupational therapist and speech therapists. Due to my speech, most people think I am drunk.

If it was not for the help of my solicitor I don’t know where I would have been today. He provided a great deal of emotional support and secured compensation at various stages from the insurance company to fund my treatment and allow me to live. He was there from start to finish. My solicitor put me in contact with different organisations and professionals to help with my problems at no expenses to me. I received all of my compensation.
